Slam storytelling meets queer-themed folk tunes in Toronto-based singer-songwriter Kate Reid whose songs just might have you rolling in the aisles with laughter or dabbing tears from your eyes. Stories about small towns, lesbian moms and donor dads, gender-bending tug-boat drivers, old and new loves, festival beer tents, and trying to get dates at the local co-op health food store are the norm in Kate’s songs.
With five albums under her belt and a slew of singles, Kate performs at live music venues, folk and music festivals, Pride festivals, youth and arts conferences, universities, public schools, and in people’s living rooms.
She also combines musical activism with teaching by facilitating workshops and giving concerts and keynote addresses in universities and colleges, secondary schools, and community service organizations. She is currently working on her PhD at the University of Toronto where she is conducting research on the use of songs in gender and sexuality curriculum development.
Kate Reid is funny, feminist, passionate, queer as a three-dollar bill, and she’s sure to entertain.
